The People Behind OCGems

Desmond M Ratsoma

Co-Founder and Shareholder

I am a 40-year-old from Polokwane, South Africa, with over 15 years of experience in the diamond industry. Raised in a small village, I began working and running small businesses from a young age. After studying diamond cutting and polishing, I built a successful career, starting at Zurel Bros and earning qualifications from institutions like the GIA. I’ve trained over 350 students, including those with disabilities, and also hold a certificate in entrepreneurship. Today, I’m a qualified sign language instructor and an active member of the Young Diamantaires Group.

Robin S Bhebhe

Co-Founder and Shareholder

I am a 32-year-old from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, with an entrepreneurial spirit that began at age 15 selling sandwiches at boarding school. I later moved into the cellphone business, becoming one of the first to import Blackberry phones. My journey in the diamond industry began when I was named Best Student Overall at the Kimberley International Diamond & Jewellery Academy in 2013. I went on to receive a full bursary from De Beers in 2014 and a scholarship from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 2015 to study Gemmology, further advancing my expertise in the field.

Kamogelo Mangena

Book-Keeper

I come from a small town called Jane Furse in Limpopo, South Africa. Although I initially planned to study Social Work, I found myself drawn to the accounting field and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Limpopo. During my studies, a mentor introduced me to the African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA) student chapter, where I served as Vice-Chairperson in 2019. The role helped me grow through community outreach at high schools and engagement with industry professionals. Today, I proudly volunteer as the Treasurer of The Rooted Gem Foundation, the NPO of OCGems.
